Closed Minded Christians - Dealing with Atheist

By Greg Vanden Berge  Articles For Christians  God Said What Videos

I was just reading an article about an atheist's problem with explaining his point of view to a Christian, and he said something and that really makes a lot of sense. Most Christians view atheists as the problem and can't open their minds up to the fact that atheists could be part of their solution.

He went on to suggest that most Christians consider atheists to be close minded, dogmatic and the irrational. This is normally the way that most atheists view Christians, I never thought of it like that, until he mentioned it.

Most Christians view atheists as close minded and some of them will even go as far as to suggest that God has already hardened their hearts, like the Egyptian pharaoh, when Moses was trying to set the Hebrews free.

I am neither an atheist nor Christian, I would consider myself to be a confused believer, searching for our Creator. Whether I'm talking to an atheist or a Christian, I seemed to get the same reaction, if I'm talking to a combative person. If either one of them views me as ignorant of their truth, I usually have a difficult time communicating to them. Hence, I would consider these people to be close minded.

One of the biggest problems I have, is when I'm talking to a Christian, and they try to convert me, towards Christianity. If they don't know who I am, I can usually have a lot of fun with them, until they can't answer my questions. That's when they become frustrated and usually get mad at me.

Now I would consider this to be a close minded Christian. A Christian who is set in their ways, believes that the Bible is the written word of God and no matter what you have to say, they will fight you tooth and nail to protect what they believe in.

Yes, I do believe that this atheist was right when he said that most Christians view atheists as close minded, but most atheists, also view Christians the same way.

To change this way of thinking, everyone will need to educate themselves about their opposition.

I have always tried to listen to anyone who is making any sense about their beliefs. If someone has something interesting to say, I would love to hear it. I can't afford to be in a position, where my mind isn't open, to listen to anybody that isn't combative and I would suggest that you do the same thing, if you want to educate yourself and advanced forward instead of living a life, standing in one position with a closed mind.

We can all benefit by learning from each other, separating ourselves and closing our minds usually leads to an aggressive situation like war.
