What Do You Consider a Biblical Mistake?

By Gregory B  Articles For Christians

I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone refer to the Bible as the inerrant word of Christianity. The Bible doesn't have any mistakes and is truly the written Word of God. The Bible was either inspired by God and written by men or the Bible itself was written by God and given to man.

I've heard it all and I would imagine that I will continue to hear, how the Bible was written and who inspired the writings. The only problem is, there's very little evidence to support the claim that God the creator of everything, is the same entity that wrote the Holy Bible.

If God did write the Bible, can we agree that he makes mistakes or are you going to continue to believe that there aren't any mistakes or contradictions in the Bible? What do you consider a biblical mistake to be? Would the only mistakes in the Bible be missed spelled words? Phrases that don't mean anything? Bible verses that contradict themselves, sometimes only a few chapters away?

If you're talking about things like these, there are plenty of mistakes in the Bible and these mistakes can be pointed out, by intelligent religious scholars and young children.

Now what about those, who stick to their guns and tell you that there aren't any mistakes in the Bible. These people interpret the written word of God, as some mysterious form of secret messages that can only be interpreted by certain special people. You could train for years as one of these special people, and not develop enough intelligence, to figure anything out in the Bible, because it is too complicated and often written in secret code.

To these people, there aren't any problems with the Bible, because this is the written word of God and they can't seem to look at it in any other perspective. God wrote this book for a reason and no one is ever going to be able to figure it out, except for God.

You can interpret the word mistake, however you want to. If you want to view the Bible as something secretive and mysterious, there's a good chance that you won't find any mistakes in it. If you're looking for simple contradictions, historical problems or numerical contradictions, the Bible obviously has a lot of mistakes.

We can assume that there aren't any mistakes in the Bible, but we can't deny the fact that there are plenty of contradictions.
