Explaining Servitude inside of Christianity?

I met a woman the other day who shared a story with me and some of you will be able to sympathize with her situation. Her and her husband were strong Christians, and seemed to be living the godly life that most Christians desired.

She was explaining to me, something that I heard before and it started to remind me of what I would call,” The horrors of religion.” Her church believed that you would work your way up the ladder, towards heaven by serving others. She accepted these beliefs and started her journey of servitude.

After all Jesus served mankind, didn't he? Why shouldn't she. She was with this Christian group for over 15 years, when she realized that no one else was doing as much as she was. She was cleaning the church elders homes, babysitting their children, cooking and still finding time to raise her family.

She asked one of the church elders,” why they weren't helping others in the church. They replied with,” We’re too busy helping people like you and other followers in our congregation, we don't have as much time as you do, we are busy people.” She thought for a moment and asked him,” if he could explain himself a little better, like what is it exactly that you're doing to help others, including myself.”

His reply was simple and something you would expect from someone who wasn't doing God's work. He said,” You wouldn't understand and you need to keep working, like you have been, you're definitely on your way to the promised land, keep doing the work of the lower and you will be going there for sure.

The woman was already feeling like she had been taken advantage of and it needed to stop. The minute that she approached her church elders, with her problem, they disowned her from the church. After all those years of cleaning their houses and helping to raise their families, they threw her away like an ordinary piece of garbage.

These people were taking advantage of her and if you're in a similar situation, you should end it as soon as possible. Christianity isn't about servitude, it's about love and anyone who motivates you into believing something entirely different, should be avoided like the plague.

I added a couple of dramatic events to the story, but the woman who I was talking to painted me a picture that you wouldn't have ever imagined. It's not fair for religious leaders like that to get away with treating someone so innocent and nice with such ungratefulness.

Servitude is about helping people, helping everyone that you possibly can, but not at the expense of your health, wealth or family. Jesus didn't have a family, he didn't have any money, he wasn't worried about his health and you probably are.

Please take care of yourself and once you feel comfortable taking care of others, you can help them but don't enable them. Most of the time, when someone asks me for help, I will suggest a book for them to read and if they don't have the money to purchase the book, I will suggest the local library to them and I might even purchase it for them, but the moment that I start to help them out financially or start to spend my time helping them, it usually doesn't work out for the best.

If you want a word of advice, don't enable those who you are serving.
