Fear and Love in Christianity or Something Else

Christianity and other religions, often motivate their followers by love and fear, but could there be something else to motivate them with. For example, what would Christianity be like, if it was a religion based entirely on love and fear was never mentioned.

For one thing, you wouldn't have a bunch of guilty followers. If someone didn't make it to one of the regular church services, they wouldn't need to feel guilty for their decision. If you did something that your religious organization, considers to be wrong, you wouldn't have to beat yourself up, simply because you made a mistake according to them.

Have you ever had a Christian church leader, make you feel guilty, for something that you haven't done? What about a church leader who is making you feel guilty, until you actually were motivated to do something? There is too much guilt in Christianity and if you open your eyes, you will see it everywhere.

I don't remember Jesus ever talking about fear as much as he talked about love. Jesus said to love our neighbors and to love our enemies. This makes sense and in a religion based entirely on love, could make even more sense. How do we get rid of the fear and focus on the love?

Well here's the bad news. If your church leaders didn't have the ability to make you feel guilty, their church attendance could drop drastically. You would probably stop giving money to them and eventually withdraw most of your support, if they didn't have the ability to make you feel obligated or committed to their specific organization.

How many people feel obligated, to go and worship on a regular basis? How many are afraid that they won't get rewarded somehow, if they don't give to their Christian organization?

We've got to get rid of the guilt and if that requires getting rid of the whole organization and starting from scratch, that's what we need to do, but we've got to get rid of the guilt, and start focusing on love. Unconditional love, is truly one of the best ways toward spiritual enlightenment.
