Does God Really Work in Mysterious Ways?

If you're religious, there's a good chance that you your self or someone that you know has quoted the statement to you,” God works in mysterious ways.” Maybe you heard it after the death of someone that you loved dearly or after someone inherited a large sum of money.

God works in mysterious ways and only he knows what he is doing and why it's being done. Life's too complicated and hard for us to understand and we should accept anything that happens to us in our life as God's will.

The problem that I have with that statement, is what if? What if there isn't a God? What if God was sleeping while something miraculous or painful happened to you? What if, what happened to you was supposed to happen to someone else? These what ifs, can go on forever and most people rarely think about them.

You're not going to be thinking about them, if you really believe, that everything in your life is directly controlled by a supreme being. Start with questioning the origins of your religion.

If God really works in mysterious ways, is it because he doesn't want us to know what he is doing, or is there a secret plan that only he will ever know about. I don't know how you can give God the credit for working in mysterious ways, when millions of people die each year from starvation.

Doesn't it sound like a copout, when you're having problems in your life and someone approaches you with this response? It was meant to be, and even though you can't understand, God does and you should accept his will.

I don't know about you, but there's a lot of things going on in the world today, that God needs to take the mystery out of. World hunger, human rights, war, mutilation, slavery, education and the worst one of all, religious intolerance and ignorance.

I sincerely believe, that we can search the origins of our religion or religious beliefs to find the truth. Don't rely on others, especially your religious leaders, who might be serving God and themselves before you.
