I am definitely a believer in an individual's right
to choose their lifestyle. In the United States of America, we think
that we live in the land of the free but the reality is something
different. If you're a woman, homosexual or do not believe in
Christianity, you could have problems living in this country. People
like these have been persecuted in the past and are still being
persecuted as I write this article.
Could you imagine living the life of a Hispanic Muslim lesbian in
America? How hard would it be for this woman to get a job in a
predominant Christian community? The only people who concern
themselves with these issues are those who suffer on a daily basis.
Most upper-class heterosexual Caucasian Christians, rarely concern
themselves with issues like these, and less their children become
involved in, what I would like to call a situation. One of their
children announces that they are gay, marrying outside of the race
or no longer choose to believe in Jesus.
It's hard to imagine, but 50 years ago, the lives of blacks,
Hispanics, atheists, homosexuals and women, along with non-believing
Christians, living in the United States had even more difficulties
living in this country. Women were getting paid less than men, while
performing at the same level and position of employment. Africans
were fighting for civil rights and equality in a country that was
founded on the theory, that all men were created equal. If you are
an atheist or homosexual, you kept it to yourself, because you knew
better. If your beliefs were to ever have been exposed to your
community, you could be in some serious trouble.
We don't have individual rights in the United States, if we did, we
would be allowed to choose our partners. Whatever race or beliefs
beliefs, heterosexual or homosexual and we could remove the limited
consciousness thinking that is going to hold our society back. These
beliefs will keep us from evolving.
As long as there is hate or ignorance, there is going to be
problems. These problems should have been solved centuries ago but
we are left with the burden to solve them today. We should have the
right to choose, instead we continue to follow what we are told and
do it without even thinking.
