Wow, what can I say? If you're looking for a book with a different point of view about Christianity, written by an Episcopalian bishop before retiring from the Episcopalian organization in the year 2000, this is the book for you.

Let me read something from the front cover, “The Bible regarded as a sacred text by millions of believers also has been quoted by politicians and church leaders to give authority to deep-seated prejudices or to justify questionable practices. As a result the Bible has emerged in the 21st century as a highly political and surprisingly controversial book.”

It's refreshing to get the truth for the most part, from a bishop in a large Christian organization. Most of these church leaders, fear for their jobs and a book like this, could actually affect someone's retirement. Of course, I'm not talking about the ability to retire, I'm talking about financial punishment from these large religious organizations, by not providing these people with the financial means, to be able to retire, if they speak the truth or pointing out simple facts about their religion.

The book talks about homosexuality, problems with laws of the Bible, women's rights, children's rights, the word of God, anti-Semitism and the history of scriptures. If you're a Christian, and you're not interested in the truth about your religion, I don't suggest that you purchase this book or ever read any books like it.

However, if you're serious about studying Christianity and Bible scriptures, you could be in for one heck of a wild ride. This book provides Christians with a different point of view about their religion from someone who has studied it and devoted his entire life to it.

Special note to Christians, you might find this book hard to digest, as John Shelby Spong points out, some of the errors in the Bible and Christianity.
